The degree of success and happiness depends on the quality of planning
By Nicki K. on February 26, 2015
Format: Paperback
Retirement is a major life transition, and as with any major transition, the degree of success and happiness depends on the quality of planning. There are many books dedicated to the topic of financial planning in anticipation of retirement, but few address the many issues that arise once the financial goals are met and retirement is actually achieved. In Creative Retirement for Women, Lee Johnson provides a common sense approach to planning for retirement, based on research and personal observation. He explains the important role that women have in both planning for and managing life during retirement. This easy-to-read book will illustrate that there is much more than just financial planning to a happy and successful retirement. The author explores areas such as networking, planning free time and personal space, being organized, being proactive with health decisions, and, of course, financial considerations as well. I recommend this book for anyone who would like to have the happy retirement they dream of. Chances are there is something you haven’t thought of, and chances are it’s addressed in this book - along with a solution. ( )

Empowering women to design their own retirement based on their personality traits and interests is a primary focus of this book. The first three chapters take you into the social and deeply personal aspects of understanding yourself. Your interests are designed into your daily planning to increase your self-expression and social involvement. These behaviors are correlated to greater quality of life and longevity for women.

As a marriage counselor, the author discusses cooperative planning with your partner. We get to understand the male point of view in relationships. The common adjustment problems of this stage are discussed with suggested solutions. The health chapter alerts us to the cost of poor health and encourages better lifestyle habits. The financial chapters offer a view of the importance of income streams rather a huge savings. The benefits of emotionally engaging work in retirement are discussed along with a number of downsizing ideas to help balance the budget. ( )
