John, have you been reading my mail? I'm not sure how I feel about you writing about my life as if it were yours.
From the "buying a bigger bed to accommodate the furry folk" to our "throw-yourself-at-the-window, 5 pound, testosterone-loaded, men dogs", these stories are our stories and must be universal. And I'll bet they are universally understood by pretty much all dog owners.
This simple philosophy resonated with me. I thank you for keeping it simple and making it readable. I cannot read, or enjoy reading, the philosophy of Thoreau, Ayn Rand, Michael Murphy or people like Mill and Nietzsche. I hope a lot of people read this book. We can learn a lot from dogs. ( )

Anyone who loves dogs and loves to read should read this book. The author, John O'Hurley, actor (Seinfeld),, first champion of Dancing with the Stars, and host of the National Dog Show and of Family Feud, is as charming in print as he is on the air. The book shares anecdotes, both hilarious and moving, about O'Hurley's dogs, Taffy, Betty, and Soshi. But unlike other dog memoirs, It's Okay also shares life lessons the author has learned from his canine companions--lessons such as gaining confidence through owning your own fur, enjoying the vulnerability of napping, and the necessity of making your bark heard. One of the most inspiring passages of the book is the dedication: "To my wife, Lisa, who has shown our dogs and me a depth of love we have never known..." This is a book worth buying and reading over and over. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0452288835, Paperback)

A charming and hilarious New York Times bestseller about the enduring wisdom of dogs, from the host of the enormously popular National Dog Show

It’s Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump is more than a mere celebration of man’s best friend. In this lighthearted exploration of how and why dogs serve as some of our most valuable and enlightened teachers, well-known and well-loved actor/show host John O’Hurley shares lessons learned from his life with canine companions, including:
•Every 15 Minutes Is a New Day
•Never Miss a Nap
•When One Person Stops Petting You, Move On
•A Cold Can of Meat Is Still a Feast
•You’re Only as Big as You Think You Are

“Dogs, after all, have pure hearts, trusting natures, a zest for living, noble characters, and an ability to take things in stride,” writes O’Hurley in the book’s introduction. “They can be counted on, and are pleasant companions. They know what's important, always. How many humans do you know about which you could say the same?”

At once poignantly moving and laugh-out-loud funny, It’s Okay to Miss the Bed on the First Jump is a must read for dog lovers everywhere.
