Cyrano de Bergerac meets Chocolat and Amélie in this intelligent, charming, and entertaining publishing sensation from Europe. While in the midst of a breakup-induced depression, Amélie Bredin, a beautiful Parisian restaurateur, discovers an astonishing novel in a quaint bookshop on the Ile Saint-Louis. Inexplicably, her restaurant and Amélie herself are featured in its pages. After reading the whole book in one night, she realizes it has saved her life--and she wishes more than anything to meet its author. Amélie's attempts to contact the attractive but shy English author through his French publishers are blocked by the company's gruff chief editor, Andre; who only with great reluctance forwards Amélie's enthusiastic letter. Più che altro un breve racconto, dolce e romantico come sempre nel classico stile Barreau, ma con un finale mesto che avrei preferito mi fosse risparmiato. Più che altro una scusa per pubblicare qualche ricetta. ( )

This was a cute story about how a book brought two people together. It was ok, not bad but not great either. ( )

The idea of this story was great...a broken hearted girl picking up a book randomly when she was at her lowest and finding that the her restaurant is mentioned in the book and that there's a character just like her in the story.

Amazing right? For her to find s book possibly written about her.

The book is written by someone she doesn't recognize and she decides to contact the author and ask him to meet her.

The book was compared to Chocolat, which is one of my favorite books. I see no similarity other than that it's based in the same area.

There are two leaf characters, one seems a bit pushy at times and the other is a bit heartless. Honestly, you can't tell that neither of them would hurt a fly on purpose but it's still hard to read the one character's charade hurting the other.

It resolves itself in a pleasant ending though. ( )

Lovely setting. The writing was a little off but then I realized it was a translation. I probably would have enjoyed it more in its original French. ( )

Correct me if I am wrong but I think this is a translation of a novel originally in French? It was not a bad book. I loved the idea, the plot was fresh and continued to move forward but I wanted more from the heroine. She didn't feel complete for some of the book, also the hero felt a bit strange to me...but it could have been A) the translation or B)Frenchmen (I don't know this as I have no experience). Anyway, decent story. I'll look for other books by this author and try them. I just liked it. ( )
