Experiences in the sound energy section have students discover that sounds are produced by vibrations. They will make lions that roar, talk on paper cup telephones, play homemade drums, and identify objects by the sound they make. Students will also study the structure of the human ear and how sounds are transmitted through it. In the light energy section, students will manipulate prisms to discover that white light is made up of many colors. Mirrors will be used to explore the reflection of light, and flashlights will be used to explore shadows. Students will also study the structure of the human eye and how light is transmitted through it. In the study of heat energy, students will learn that a thermometer is an instrument that measures temperature and temperature tells how much heat energy something has. They will also explore what happens when you add heat energy to melt ice cubes and see the results of taking heat energy away to freeze juice.
