Plot Summary: Katie Friedman is the best thumb typist in the world. She lives for her phone much to her parents (who are both therapists) dismay. But at lunch, when she's trying to have a conversation with her friends about possibly breaking up with her boyfriend and her friends aren't listening because they're too attached to their phones, Katie gets frustrated. During homeroom, she gets an invite from Nareem to attend a concert for her favorite band, including going backstage and meeting Plain Jane! She definitely can't break up with Nareem now. The concert is amazing, even though Jane asks everyone to put their phones down and experience life. Backstage, she calls Katie "Flattery Girl" and finds out Katie wants to be a singer/songwriter too. She encourages Katie to write a song, and even promises that if Katie can get 10 of her friends to give up their phone for a week, she will invite the entire group on stage at her next concert. Katie is flabbergasted but knows she can't use this incentive to convince her friends. So how is she going to convince 10 of her friends to give up their phones? In the bathroom, she talks to Eliza, the most popular girl in school. Maybe if she can convince her, others will follow? Will Eliza do it? Will Katie be able to survive without her phone? Will she write a song? Will she get to go up on stage?

Personal Thoughts: I really liked Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading, but this book was poorly written. The characters were not well developed and the characters talked didactically. None of them acted the way I think most kids of this age act. The author kept telling us things but not showing us (ex: Katie likes Charlie Joe). I never got emotionally connected to any o the characters because of the poor development.
