Fiction. Mystery. Suspense. Thriller. HTML:From the internationally acclaimed author of the Harry Hole novels??a fast, tight, darkly lyrical stand-alone novel that has at its center the perfectly sympathetic antihero: an Oslo contract killer who draws us into an unexpected meditation on death and love.

This is the story of Olav: an extremely talented ??fixer? for one of Oslo??s most powerful crime bosses. But Olav is also an unusually complicated fixer. He has a capacity for love that is as far-reaching as is his gift for murder. He is our straightforward, calm-in-the-face-of-crisis narrator with a storyteller??s hypnotic knack for fantasy. Although shorter than usual Nesbo's books (around 200 pages) this was a very interesting story. I wont go into details but witnessing events from a perspective of young man considered by others to be "slow" - even he thinks about himself in that way although as story develops we can see he i snot stupid at all. Although he is not exactly a fan of thorough research.... Olav is what you might call man that reacts on his instinct, and in the end that instinct is nit that reliable.

Thrown into the criminal milieu by forces he cannot control Olav became a very renown contract killer employed by a local drug lord. So when turf wars start [competition is harsh in drug business] Olav is forced between continuing doing his job or doing something right. And he needs to be careful because wrong decision can be his last in this world.

Ending is emnotional, somebody would say tragic but I would not agree. It is as tragic as perhaps ending of that movie "City of Angels"/"Heaven over Berlin" - estranged people finally manage to find each other in a very unforgiving world. So it is not sad but more like bitter-sweet ending.

Not your usual Jo Nesbo but nevertheless very interesting and good crime novel.

Recommended to all fans of crime and thriller novels. ( )

Definitely not what I expected, especially the ending. ( )

I highly enjoyed this standalone novella. The narrator is Olav, a fixer for a local crime boss but it is not that kind of novel. Olav has a complicated life that he lets you see in tiny little pieces, he is clear that he commits crimes and mostly kills for his boss but there are other hints to who is he is that appear slowly as the plot moves forward. The ending is somewhat complicated but thoughtful and I really enjoyed reading it and must read more of Nesbo that is sitting on my shelves.
