Known for her social documentary photography, Louise Whelan continues to document the daily life of migrants and refugees now calling Australia home. Through the process of visual story telling, this project intends to cut through the repetitive mainstream media portrayal of multiculturalism which focuses on fear based "border protection". Whelan prefers to record an enlightened view of the ordinary everyday aspects of daily life, observing a new generation of Australian settlers and the blending of their cultural roots with the backdrop of their new country Australia which is continually evolving from it's xenophobic roots. These images bear witness to Australia's democratic values, by practicing traditions, religious choices, and languages within the law and free from discrimination.… (more)
