The Night World by Mordicai Gerstein; (5*)

There is something so special about this author and the way he illustrates his magnificent stories. I absolutely adore his work.

This little book is about a small boy whose kitty wakens him in the darkest of night to take him out for an adventure. The child is amazed by all the shades and shadowing in the darkness. He and the kitty show each other so many animals and plants and things of the night.
Suddenly all of God's creatures are singing and chattering as a bit of light begins to break through the branches of the trees. All creation in this little yard celebrates as the sun bursts forth.
A wonderful book with marvelous illustrations. It is a book for kids of all ages, as are all of Mordicai Gerstein's books. ( )

This book tells the story of a young boy who wakes up in the night. Together he and his cat creep through the house, noticing that things look very different at nighttime. They end up in the yard, where again, shadows and shapes are different. The story is told mostly through illustrations, all black and white and grey at the beginning. The animals in his yard keep whispering, "It's coming. Get ready." What's coming? You'll have to read to find out. ( )

A boy is woken by his cat in the middle of the night. They find themselves in the night world, where shadows live. The boy and his v=cat go outside and watch as the sun banishes the night world as they greet a new day.

This book celebrates the mystery and secrets of the night. A cat named Sylvie convinces her young boy to explore the world of night darkness with her, where they find shadows everywhere, a lack of colors in the flowers and trees, and nocturnal animals who whisper that the dawn and sunrise are near.
