Ever hear the joke about Shakespeare: What's so great about him; all he did was string a bunch of quotes together. This poor poem has been so mined for titles and allusions that it can suffer the same fate. It takes some careful reading and some notes to ferret out what Yeats was on about. After you do that, you find a description of 20th century angst that rivals Eliot's The Waste Land. ( )
