An excellent start to a new series from this author. This is a friends to lovers story that is humorous and heart touching. It was also nice to see references to characters and places in the Holland Springs series. A great story, characters, and writing make this one for the must read pile. I highly recommend it. ( )

Sydney has been crushing on her best friend Brody for years, but as he makes his way through the beds of the hottest women in town, she's been relegated to just-one-of-the-guys status, and she's had it. When the annual fundraiser auction of local firemen comes around, she finds herself with the winning bid for Brody, and while she may not know what to do with him, she knows what she wants. A few little fibs and a deal between best friends quickly heats up into something that will change everything for them.

The Verdict: Best friends falling in love will probably always be one of my favorite plots. As much as I like a good romance, there's just something more genuine to me about people who truly know each other and don't just happen upon romance in a bar or classroom or wherever.

Brody is as hot as they come, and he's been a good friend to Sydney for years, but he's also spent those years running off most of the guys who would have gladly stepped in and taken his place in her heart, and it's left her with some pretty serious insecurities. Aside from the fact that he treats her like a sister, she's been unlucky in dating and love while he's always got women falling all over him. So with the encouragement of a few friends, including Brody's most recent ex, she places the high bid on the fire chief of her dreams and buys some time with her favorite man.

Unfortunately, Brody doesn't see her gesture for what it is, instead wondering why she'd waste her hard-earned money on time she's already guaranteed with him. So she lets him think she's interested in one of his newest employees, asking him to teach her how to seduce a man. Beginning to see Sydney as an available woman instead of a bestie, the last thing Brody wants to do is set her up to go after someone else, but he's not about to pass up the chance to get his hands on her.

When things heated up between these two… Well, I'm a bit surprised my Kindle didn't melt. Brody pulls out all the stops to get Sydney all hot and bothered, and she doesn't back down one bit. It felt a little bold and maybe too fast to me at a couple of moments in the story, but then again, these two were secretly pining for each other, so perhaps I shouldn't have been too surprised how quickly things led to the bedroom.

The only thing that really bothered me about the story was their dramatics. When Sydney laid it all out for Brody and confessed that she was really only interested in him the whole time, he blew a fuse, which if you ask me was a bit hypocritical. I mean, he was the one who'd been screwing up any chances she had for romance with anyone else, and then when she basically gave him exactly what he wanted, he threw a fit because he'd been played. Fortunately, they got past that soon enough and got back to the path to happily ever after, but the fact that these best friends would essentially turn on each other at the moment they were finally coming clean with their feelings left a bit of a sour taste.

In any case, Love So Hot is a quick, fun read that lives up to its name, and I'll definitely be looking for the next book in the series.
