And I did read it in one night, in two sittings. This is the story of three brothers in another world, Sandlands. They are princes in line for the royal throne. Every so often strangers land in their world and no one really knows why. Is it because they are sad or suicidal, like Lois? (a cop with a bum knee and an unhappy future), or by accident like Anne? (Anne is from the past, she was fighting in WW2 when she disappeared), or is a part of the person's nature like Rica (whose mother came from the lands, and whose father built a machine to travel back and forth from the deminsions). The novel is divided into three novellas, each on focuses on one brother finding his true love. The stories work to varying degrees. Unfortunately the first is the best and each one goes down a notch from there. The first story, Lois's, is fleshed and and fun. The other two feel rushed, like MJD was just racing to a conlusive Happily Ever After. Despite this the stories were all relatively enjoyable. It would have been a nice world, have MJD decided to do SandLands as a trilogy and make each story a full book. As it was, I only wanted to know more. I didn't feel a complete sence of satisfaction and knowing there is no more of the SandLands to come is somewhat off-putting. ( )Fun! A set of three interlinked stories in this one with women from this world finding themselves in another world at a moment of crisis. Very slight, very silly and if you put your brain in gear in any way you start to wonder how long these relationships are going to last when they only thing going for them is sex. Don't get me wrong they're not bad, it's just very superficial and a great break from reality. no reviews | add a review
