SEE JANE SCORE was absolutely amazing!!!! Seriously, I'd give it way more than five stars if I could; I got it from the library and I am definitely going to get it on PaperBack Swap since I know this will be a (multiple) future reread for me.

Jane and Luc were great characters and there interactions were very enjoyable; the supporting cast was also great - Jane's friend Caroline was a riot, watching Luc develop a relationship with his sister Marie was very sweet, and the other hockey players (+ Darby) added a lot of humor.

I've read a fair amount of romances (probably an understatement), and though they have most all been historicals, I think it's usual in the romance genre that when an author has one of the main characters do something that creates conflict for the couple and causes issues/a fight towards the end, it's almost always the guy. That's why it was a nice change to have in this book the heroine be the one who does something that causes the conflict (one of Jane's "Honey Pie" articles) and have her be the one with all the regret and guilt and the hero be the injured party.

Basically: wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! READ IT!! ( )

3 1/2 starsI really wish I could give this book a higher rating. It was a cute and fun read. Jane and Luc were both likable characters with plenty of chemistry. The storyline was good and the plot moved right along. So, why didn't I rate the book higher? For three inaccuracies that drove me crazy.1. San Jose has never had and arena named Compac Center--it was the Compaq Center (now named the HP Pavilion). I'll give this one up to a typo, but really, this should have been caught by and editor.2. The book was has a copyright of 2003. In 2003 CA already had a law banning smoking from all public buildings, including bars--it had for years. When the team was in SJ, they went to a bar that smelled like smoke. The only place it should have smelled like smoke was outside. I live in SJ and have been to a number of bars/restaurants all around the Bay Area and even the grungiest of dive bars follow the law. A little research could have fixed this error.3. The last one is the biggest and most annoying to me. I am from Detroit and I have never ever been able to see Lake Michigan from anywhere in the vicinity. No one would be able to--not even in an airplane. It is almost 200 miles to Lake Michigan from Detroit. From Chicago, yes, but not Detroit. You can see the Detroit River--the city sits right next to it, but NONE of the Great Lakes--check out a map. When the team was in Detroit, Jane looked out the window of the hotel to see Lake Michigan--she must have been looking at a picture. Ugh...some fact checking would have been good.I know, they are mostly nits, but really, it shows a lack of research and reliability. I really hate that. The story was good, but filled with too many inaccuracies for me to love it. ( )

See Jane Score was the first book I read by Rachel Gibson. After reading this book, I went out and bought more books by Gibson. Jane and Luc were great characters, who were well matched. Jane a reporter was assigned an NHL reporting job, and Luc was the goalie on the hockey team. They both butted heads over a women being a reporter. This caused conflict that was fixed by the end of the book. ( )

Book description

Setting: Seattle, Washington
Sensuality: 8

At long last, Seattle Times columnist Jane Alcott has a shot at a full-time assignment. She badly needs the income, but unfortunately, the opening is for a sports reporter traveling with the Seattle Chinooks hockey team and she knows nothing about the game. To add to her difficulty, the team doesn't want her, especially Luc "Lucky" Martineau, the Chinooks $33 million goalie. The team stonewalls when she tries to interview them and they haze her mercilessly; it isn't until the superstitious Luc decides that she brings good luck that Jane gets a shot at being a real journalist. But when her acceptance by the team leads to spending more time with Luc, Jane finds, to her dismay, that he’s more than a handsome, empty-headed sports jock and her heart is in danger.

For his part, Luc learns that behind "plain Jane's" boring dark clothing and black-rimmed glasses lies a quick wit, nerves of steel, and a personality that charms him. And when Jane appears at a team banquet with a new haircut, makeup, and a killer red dress with matching sexy stilettos, Luc's affection fast-forwards into a major case of serious lust. But if Jane lets herself fall in love, she'll have to find a way to explain the secret she's hiding before it becomes public knowledge and Luc's passion turns to hate. Can she bring herself to tell him the truth? And if she does, will he forgive her?

Set in the rough and tumble world of professional hockey, See Jane Score features an intelligent, likable heroine and a hero with depth beneath his sports jock façade. The layered characters, intriguing setting, and the novel's compelling emotional plot all add up to an excellent contemporary romance. Don’t miss this one. --Lois Faye Dyer
