Suspense This one started so slow and dragged on and on, a social drama with nothing very thrilling going on. Unlikeable characters and an unbearable amount of do-goodism – I wanted to slap and shake Heidi so hard the whole time. Nearly DNFed so many times. Only in the last third it started to pick up and the last 50 pages were wild - unreliable narrators and twists that kind of saved the whole book. I love Mary Kubica! Pretty Baby is a gripping psychological thriller that follows the intertwined lives of three individuals - a couple who take in a homeless girl and the girl herself. As their relationships become increasingly tangled and dark secrets are revealed, readers will be flipping pages aiming for the stunning conclusion. No one does character and plot like Kubica! Pretty Baby is a must-read for fans of psychological suspense. no reviews | add a review

HTML: A chance encounter sparks an unrelenting web of lies in this stunning new psychological thriller from national bestselling author Mary Kubica. Heidi Wood has always been a charitable woman: she works for a nonprofit and takes in stray cats. Still, her husband and daughter are horrified when Heidi returns home one day with a young woman named Willow and her four-month-old baby in tow. Disheveled and apparently homeless, this girl could be a criminalâ??or worse. But despite her family's objections, Heidi invites Willow and the baby to take refuge in their home. Heidi spends the next few days helping Willow get back on her feet, but as clues into Willow's past begin to surface, Heidi is forced to decide how far she's willing to go to help a stranger. What begins as an act of kindness quickly spirals into a story far more twisted than anyone could have anticipated. No library descriptions found. |
