Della’s world gets even stranger as she’s just discovered who her father is and that he’s going to proclaim her his heir; and he’s the leader of the largest Elfennol city on the planet and one of three elders that rule their race. But that also puts her at even more risk by those who fear what she might be, as well as enemies who want to use what she can do.

Welcome to what is otherwise a very normal world. But there are a couple of families that have some abilities to manipulate elemental energy. And there is a human-looking alien race that can manipulate spirit energy called the Elfennol who work in tangent with the few accepted humans to fight their enemy, the Clade, an offshoot of the Elfennol that are considered pure evil. Della is shocked to learn that you can’t even get caught speaking to one without being labeled as one of them and that’s just one area Della would like to see changed.

What I really like about this series are Della and the other characters close to her. I feel the character building is well done and the situations between the different relationships seem very realistic. It’s easy to get into Della’s head and feel her feelings as well as experience how and why she’s changing. But you also feel for the other characters as well. You might want to have some tissues handy for this one. ( )
