I thought the book did really well at first. A good, strong beginning with an interesting story. About half way through the book, though, everything fell apart. This situation with the jade statuette and it's constant theft by Kyrie was so repetitive... almost to the point that the author himself seemed bored and the writing suffered as a result. The speed of the story drastically increased around this dame point and the dialog became cheesy and predictable. Despite all of these pitfalls, I will probably still read the next book simply because the abrupt ending left me needing a resolution. ( )

Sheyna is a young girl about 16 whose memory was erased, so she would not know whom she truly was. Her memory was erased when she was very young and now that she is older she is considered a street rat. She steals what food she can others tend to be nice and help her when they can. Sheyna already wields some magic but she has no idea how powerful she truly is until she is forced to use it. By accident she is discovered by one of the women in the tower and is forced into a position she is not sure she really wants but when her worse enemy becomes her best friend the journey will just begin. Great read for all ages. I cannot wait to read further into this story and the woman that will one day be called by “Lady Shay” ( )

I won a copy of this on Librarything. I liked this book, but it didn't blow me away. I thought the beginning was a little clunky. At some points there was more telling than showing. It was a cute story, and I liked the main character. ( )
