Jillian Hart is about to make her way up the aisle to marry her long-time love Tom and is hoping for some peace and quiet. But that is not to be. First, Jillian takes in a new cat, named Magpie, and the little guy is turning things up-side down, literally. Then there’s a murder of a local construction company owner, Rhett Marner. No one seems to be grieving over the victim except his daughter Lindsey, who’s a friend of Tom’s stepson Finn. She winds up camping out at Jillian’s, too.

And Lindsey’s family – mother, step-mother, siblings and step-siblings – is dysfunctional with a capital “D.” The poor girl is angry at the world, but who better to step in to help her is Jillian, who’s known for her natural ability to calm a situation? But Lindsey seems to be immune to any of Jillian’s charms.

One murder investigation soon becomes two, and Tom is asked to step away from his detective and security work to help-- as a sworn officer. Although Jillian is thinking they may have to delay the wedding, Tom insists they have waited long enough and nothing will delay the nuptials. But can he solve the murder in time to walk down the aisle?

I haven’t read any of the “Cats in Trouble” mysteries for a while, and was surprised about how easily all the characters came back to me. There are a few in the series I’ve missed, and I’m looking forward to reading them all. ( )

Author Leann Sweeney has penned another delightful installment in her Cats In Trouble Mystery series. In my opinion, this is the best one so far.

THE CAT, THE SNEAK AND THE SECRET starts off with mystery in chapter one, even before the body is discovered. And the mystery and intrigue just keep growing for there. It was a fun ride!

Murder, a mischievous kleptomaniac kitten, and wedding plans had me so deeply absorbed in this book, I lost all track of time. I really enjoyed spending time with lead character Jillian Hart, her soon to be husband, Tom, and the rest of the characters of this wonderful series. And of course, the feline population. 

I really adored this story, the seventh addition to a wonderful series, so much. It was filled with everything that makes a cozy mystery a perfect read. Author Sweeney never lets her readers down. On the contrary, she ups her game with every new book she writes and THE CAT, THE SNEAK AND THE SECRET is proof of that.

If you love mystery, cats, and/or just plain good writing, you don’t want to miss this wonderful book.

Look for the sneak peek of THE CAT, THE QUILT AND THE CORPSE, book eight in this fantastic series, at the back of the book. ( )

The Cat, The Sneak and The Secret is the seventh book in the Cats In Trouble series.

Things are hectic around the Hart household, as Jillian and Tom's wedding is quickly approaching. In addition, Finn Tom's stepson has decided to adopt a kleptomaniac cat that will take up residence with Jillian three, Chablis, Merlot and Syrah. Somehow the cat, who has been named Magpie, mysteriously shows up at Ed's Swap Shop When Jillian and Finn arrive there, they find Magpie hiding in a sofa. When they get her out, they find she has locket and chain, which has blood on it and there is also a bullet in the sofa.

When Kara, Jillian stepdaughter and owner of the local newspaper, learns that a body has been found at a construction site of local builder, Rhett Marner. Once the body is recovered, it is learned that he had been shot and Jillian begins to wonder if it was his blood on the sofa and locket that the cat had.
A
Zoe Marner, Rhett's wife and his ex-wife were at the site when police were able to identify the body. It seemed strange that the two women seemed to be the best of friends and Jillian wondered why they were comforting each other. Seth Marner, Rhett son from his first marriage, is the one that discovers the body by noticing a shoelace sticking out of the dirt. She begins to wonder if he was observant or knew the body was buried there. Seth's sister also becomes a person of interest as she seems to be hiding information that might be important to the . And what is the secret that the ex-wife and family have? Then the water becomes even muddier when the police chief dies. Was it suicide or murder.

Another enjoyable visit with the folks of Mercy, SC. Most all the wonderful characters are back once again. Police deputy Candace is back and is hoping the case gets solved quickly so will be able to take part in Jillian wedding, if it's still on. Lydia Monk, coroner, is back to make things difficult for Jillian, but she seems to be not as bad as in some of the other books.

This is definitely my favorite cat themed series and am looking forward to the next book in the series. ( )

Epigraph
One of the most striking differences between a cat and a lie is that a cat only has nine lives.
--Mark Twain
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my precious Marlowe, who awaits me on the Rainbow Bridge - and to  all those who gave me so much support as that precious kitty and I followed a difficult path together.
First words
The cramped office that served the Mercy Animal Sanctuary smelled like hay and kitty litter and kibble and pine-scented air freshener - or as I liked to call it, love.
