I LOVED this book. Its about a boy that starts to eat books slowly and then starts devouring them too quickly. He learns to slow down and actually read them instead of gobbling them up. I just loved the illustrations in this book so much! I think this book would be great for reluctant readers because of the interesting cover which has a bite out of it. Also it would be a great way for students to see that books can be enjoyed. ( )

Yet another gorgeous Oliver Jeffers book. With his usual wit and whimsy, this time he has written a story about a boy who becomes amazingly clever by eating books - but soon it all goes wrong.

With the usual illustrations you would expect from Jeffers, but with the added appeal that he has used different printed materials as backgrounds to each picture - pages from books, order forms, cards etc. No matter what age you are, if you love books, you will get a kick out of the story of the Incredible Book Eating Boy. Henry loves books so much he eats them. For a while, that seems to make him smarter, but eventually it's not good for him or anyone else, especially the librarian!

The story is so weird! The drawings are amazing and someone took a bite out of it at the very end... ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0007182279, Hardcover)

Like many children, Henry loves books. But Henry doesn’t like to read books, he likes to eat them. Big books, picture books, reference books . . . if it has pages, Henry chews them up and swallows (but red ones are his favorite). And the more he eats, the smarter he gets—he’s on his way to being the smartest boy in the world! But one day he feels sick to his stomach. And the information is so jumbled up inside, he can’t digest it! Can Henry find a way to enjoy books without using his teeth?

With a stunning new artistic style and a die-cut surprise, Oliver Jeffers celebrates the joys of reading in this charming and quirky picture book. It’s almost good enough to eat.
