This book explains the basic theoretical concepts of Artificial Intelligence. The emphasis in this book is on illustrations, not demonstrations or experiments. Ideally, a one-semester course in Artificial Intelligence using this book should be followed by a one-semester course in LISP. [LISP is an acronym for List Processing Language, a high-level computer language invented by Professor John McCarthy in 1961 to support research into computer based logic, logical reasoning, and artificial intelligence. It was the first symbolic (as opposed to numeric) computer processing language.] ( )

Book description

Amazon.com (ISBN 0201533774, Paperback)

This book is one of the oldest and most popular introductions to artificial intelligence. An accomplished artificial intelligence (AI) scientist, Winston heads MIT's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, and his hands-on AI research experience lends authority to what he writes. Winston provides detailed pseudo-code for most of the algorithms discussed, so you will be able to implement and test the algorithms immediately. The book contains exercises to test your knowledge of the subject and helpful introductions and summaries to guide you through the material.
