An airplane book, escape reading, junk reading. I didn't hate it. Leah Carson is doing well as a veterinarian four years after her marriage came to a crashing end through a fiery crash. A few personal items were found on the burned body, and identification was made of her husband, Philip. The nightmare was at an end. But in the past several months strange things have been happening, and they remind Leah of what Philip used to do to taunt her. A delivery of flowers on their anniversary. A flat tire. Keys out of place. Small things but meaningful in the context of their married - and then separated - life. Living in a new city, Leah had not made many friends. But one had gone out of her way to reach out. Deidre invited her to join her running group, and the two shared many good times together. Perhaps part of the reason was that they also shared pasts with abusive husbands. in Deidre's case, her husband was still bothering her, and she was afraid of what he might do. Then Leah's life is torn apart - again - by a vicious murder. Texas Bureau of Investigation agent Alex Morgan is on the case. Determined to keep emotions at bay, Alex nevertheless starts to have feelings for Leah. The incidents pile up and the threats get closer until... Yes. It's essentially romantic suspense, although not as cloying as some. Four years ago, Leah Carson Latimer, was attacked and almost killed by her estranged ex-husband Phillip. The scars of the 23 stab wounds have lightened some in the ensuing years, and though Phillip was pronounced dead in a car accident she remains a captive of fear. Then Leah finds her friend Deidre murdered, stabbed to death… This suspenseful mystery had me on the edge of my chair. With a tightly written plot, well cast characters and the flow for easy reading I raced thru this book. Recommended. Interesting mystery with a twist at the end that I wasn't expecting. I do feel like there were a few unanswered questions though due to the twist. This book is apart of a series so I did feel like I missed a few a key points having not read the previous books. I really liked Leah but can say I ever got to really liking Alex. There just wasn't anything that really stood out about him to male him likable, he was pretty boring in fact. Probably won't be reading anymore by this author. no reviews | add a review
