... romantic development (again, no graphic sex). Wheel of the infinite is another favorite.
The madness season and In conquest born by C. S. Friedman has some very strange relationships, but well worth reading.
Other than that I'd recommend:
Wen Spencer - A brothers price, ... ... anything else she's written.
I would recommend most of what C. S. Friedman has written. This Alien Shore and In Conquest Born particularly.
In the fantasy department Martha Wells is one of the best - Wheel of Time, City of Bones, The Fall of IleRien trilogy are great.
... 67. Wings of Wrath by C.S. Friedman
68. The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling
69. Midnight Graffiti
March stats: 21 for the month, 69 (dude!) for the year. ...
Smoke and Mirrors by Jane Lindskold
An Alien Light by Nancy Kress
This Alien Shore by C. S. Friedman
In Conquest Born and sequel The Wilding by C. S. Friedman (the the sequel isn't as good as the first one) Congratulations on 30 books!
I'm glad you liked In Conquest Born. I have loved all of C.S. Friedman's books and can't recommend them enough. ... author a second chance but not always a third. (Sawyer is definitely off my reading list).
I found C.S. Friedman's In Conquest Born to be wretched -- all the stereotypes, uneven characterization, and nonsense plot twists of the worst space operas. But a few years later, a friend handed ... 20. In Conquest Born - C.S. Friedman
21. 46 Pages - Scott Liell
I took a small break from prose after that last R. A. Salvatore book to catch up on some graphic novels that had been piling up before jumping into In Conquest Born. This one was a bit different for me. It was ... I would agree with In Conquest Born - typical US milSF cover, typical cover blurb. Not my cup of tea. I think the initials may have been an attempt to hide her gender.
Tepper, on the other hand, I have a few of her works although not as many as I should. Her work has been nominated for many ... ... the one of the best SF novels written; Jack McDevitt's Eternity Road a great example of post-apocalyptic fiction; and In Conquest Born and The Wilding by C S. Friedman, an excellent but overlooked series of space opera. ... mediocre, unfortunately)
I'm glad to hear that others had the same experience regarding The Wilding. I've reread In Conquest born a number of times, and was very disappointed with the sequel.
Fortunately she has also written This Alien Shore, and The Madness Season which are ... I have Shade's Children by Garth Nix (HC), In Conquest Born by C. S. Friedman (PB), Triskell Tales(HC), A Circle of Cats(HC), and possible more Charles de Lint publications from Subterraneanpress.com The Forever War - Joe Haldeman (warning: the two sequels were dreadful, as in downright embarassing)
In Conquest Born - C.S. Friedman (the sequel was readable, but it wasn't much better than mediocre, unfortunately)
Childhood's End - Arthur Clarke
The Ophiuchi Hotline -John Varley
... ... and fantasy tho' she's best know for her Coldfire Trilogy which is a fantasy. The book that got me started reading her was In Conquest Born which is science fiction.
And there's Elizabeth Moon who is primarily known for her military science fiction (she was a Marine.) My favorite of ... Just started (and finished) The Wilding - not really a sequel, but in the same universe as In Conquest Born and with solid power dynamics but more (and correspondingly less developed) individual characters.
Also read scattered bits of My Tank Is Fight which is fun pseudo-history of ... My husband read The Wilding and liked it but said it wasn't as good as In Conquest Born. This Alien Shore is my favorite of hers.
I've never been able to get into a Robert J. Sawyer's book, and I don't know why. I own Hominids and might give it a try again.
The Last Light of the Sun ... mdbenoit> good review, thanks for the link. I just finished In Conquest Born and while it took me a good 200 pages to really get into the story, I found it to be overall a very good and satisfying read. Have you read The Wilding? Is it any good?
Robert J. Sawyer is one of my favourite ... I have a review of In Conquest Born on my blog if you want to read it, at this post.
I don't know any bookseller who does remainders books, except for Indigo, but I'm not sure they count. ... Seems that everyone I know also knits or crochets so i would mind learning some yarn crafts too.
Right now I'm reading In Conquest Born by C. S. Friedman.
Can anyone recommend a Canadian bookseller that does remainders and bargain books? Thankfully the Canadian dollar is strong ... In Conquest Born is C. S. Friedman's very first book (I review it on my blog here.
Right now, I'm reading Cheryl Swanson's Death Game. In Conquest Born by C. S. Friedman at the moment. I'm not finding it to be quite as good as her Coldfire Trilogy - the world building just isn't quite as solid and I feel like the story would have benefited by a little more upfront history about the various races and their conflicts.
