Awesome story of how the rainbow is God's promise to never flood the earth. Great illustrations. Mother Earth prays for someone to keep here company, and the Little Rainbow comes along to brighten her day, until the violent storms take Little Rainbow away. Again, Earth prays for the rain to stop, and sees the sun peeking through the clouds. Soon colors started brightening the Earth again. ( )

This story is a take on the biblical story of how the rainbow came to be, after the devastating flood we read about in Noah’s story. In this case, Earth is not happy being alone. God, taking pity, send the rainbow to help Earth out. Things go well until the rainbow disappears and Earth becomes unhappy again. The one thing that struck me was how the author portrayed earth as an angry, dissatisfied being, almost a petulant teenager who sulks and pouts. I think the author could have tempered this a bit, but I will not hold that against the author. The story is well done and could be easily used in Sunday school with younger children or by parents of young children. I have read in other reviews that the author wrote this in memory of a child who died young. This is a fantastic way to keep the child’s memory alive and to enjoy him/her forever. I received this from Library Thing to read and review. ( )

In The Little Rainbow, we follow the story of the Earth and all of her magnificent beauty. On one hand, the Earth was happy with her many wonders, but on the other, she was lonely because she had no one to talk to. Her loneliness led to sadness until the great rains came – so much rain that she asked God to send something to stop it. She waited a long time, until finally God sent the Little Rainbow.

This book is a new take on a biblical story that many of us are familiar with. In Genesis, God sends Noah a promise in the form of a rainbow. The Little Rainbow is a more simplified version of the biblical story, making it geared perfectly towards young children. I could see The Little Rainbow used in Sunday school as a valuable tool to teach children about God’s love.

The one thing I would like to have seen is larger pictures. Although the story definitely does not rely heavily on pictures, from experience I know that little ones enjoy following along via photos and drawings.

I would recommend The Little Rainbow to Sunday school teachers, parents and caregivers. This is a lovely story with a timeless message! ( )
