Action-packed suspense is the hallmark of Falcon by Ronie Kendig, book 3 in her Quiet Professionals series. With explosions, sniper fire and ambushes, this book is a good choice for those who love military-based fiction. It also has a romance thread to keep fans happy. The novel continues the stories of several characters, so I would recommend that you read the previous books first.

Warrant officer Salvatore Falcon Russo is a member of an elite special forces team based in Afghanistan. As the team comes under attack from enemies on several fronts, he is thrown together with the last person he would choose to join in investigating. Lt. Cassandra Walker proved untrustworthy in the past, and he wants no part of her in his future. But events conspire to bring them together one more time. And this time their hearts may be changed.

Falcon plunges the reader right in the middle of military action. Characters are tough and determined. And while there hardness keeps them on task in their missions, they do have a soft side for those who are vulnerable. Main characters Falcon and Cassandra battle grief, guilt and feelings of betrayal. They have to overcome many obstacles before they can trust each other again. The novel is fast-paced and Ronie keeps you guessing as the investigation into the traitor progresses. I never saw the ending coming. I was a bit lost for the first half of the book — I didn’t have enough back story to understand the dynamics of the team and the context of the story. This series definitely needs to be read in order.

If you like romantic suspense with a military focus and non-stop action, then check out Falcon.

Audience: adults.

Title: Falcon (The Quite Professionals #3)
Author: Ronie Kendig
Pages: 350
Year: 2015
Publisher: Shiloh Run Press
Salvatore Russo or Sal or Falcon as he is known to his brothers in arms on the Special Forces Team stationed in Afghanistan is angry at the world it would seem. However, his anger is really directed at one person, Cassie Walker. Underneath the anger though are shame, guilt and anger at himself. He chooses to deal with his feelings in an unhealthy way, one that could get him discharged if discovered. He has always been intense and any mission failures seen as person failures. He is driven and completely loyal to his team. Now that Cassie is on the scene he seems more distracted. With a mole leaking sensitive information to an enemy, Daniel Jin, and further attempts on the lives of fellow soldiers, Falcon needs his focus more than ever. But Cassie reveals something she has kept from him for four years and Falcon isn’t sure how he is supposed to deal with this new revelation.
Cassie Walker took this mission in Afghanistan, working for the CIA, so she could be close to Sal and hopefully receive his forgiveness. Whenever she encounters him though he is angry with her and leaves no doubt that there will never be a future for the two of them together. A friend Cassie knew ten years ago, but has kept in touch with, now is the means by which Daniel Jin can devastate the lives of servicemen and women everywhere. However, Cassie has faith in her friend, who she used to think of as closer than a sister. Has her friend really changed that much? Is she really so cold and evil? While on the trail of her friend and trying to free her from the clutches of Daniel Jin, Cassie is also worried about Sal and her feelings of love that she still has for him. Will he ever forgive her?
The plot of the story kept me guessing as to the trustworthiness of a few characters until the closing chapters. There was plenty of action, intrigue and well-developed characters. Cassie and Sal had a physical relationship in the past, which didn’t work out at the time, but in the beginning of this story Sal couldn’t stand to even be in the same room with her. Trust or lack thereof was a main theme in the book, and I liked how Cassie in the intervening four years apart from Sal had given her life to Christ. She trusted Him and this His plan for her life. There were some surprises in the story that made for a great conclusion. I have really enjoyed this military series from Ronie Kendig and hope she keeps writing in this genre.
My rating is 5 stars.

FALCON could very well be a story ripped from today’s headlines. Set in modern day Afghanistan the story details one elite military units fight to maintain cyber security as well as the safety and anonymity of valuable military assets. The identity of the person or group perpetrating the attacks is unknown, but the team in honing in on them. As they do the threat increases, the plot thickens, and lives hang in the balance. Ronie Kendig’s explosive ending to The Quiet Professionals Series will keep you reading with rapt attention!

Over the course of the series Kendig has singled out individual team members and focused on how their unique personal struggles have impacted the overall mission. Her characters break the mold of popular Christian fiction because they are always a little edgy. In this book, Salvatore “Falcon” Russo is loyal to his brothers in arms, dedicated to the mission, protective, and occasionally hot-tempered. Falcon’s personal struggles with the guilt over his past choices carries a universal message to all Christians — see 2 Corinthians 7:10. The history he shares with Lt. Walker is complicated, which makes for an interesting romantic tension between the two.

There is no room for weak leading ladies in Rapid-Fire Fiction. We saw it with Zahrah Zarrick in RAPTOR 6, as well as Fekiria from HAWK (both ladies make cameo appearances in FALCON). Now we see that the same is true of Lt. Cassandra Walker. While each woman possesses a physical beauty that makes them attractive to the men of Raptor, their bravery, intelligence, and fortitude place them in a class of their own. The women of Raptor are inspiring!

If you have a passion for suspense fiction, FALCON is a must read! Get your copy when the book releases from Shiloh Run Press on May 4th. ( )
