I LOVED Heart Shaped Box as well and agree it was like a long gone by Stephen King. Booksloth - sorry your B key is still out of commission. It is getting easier to read your posts though so I must be getting used to it. I can only imagine how annoying it is to be typing those posts!

... I got sucked into buying Under the Dome. It's a lot of book for $9. Rather brick-like. BTW, I loved his son's book, Heart Shaped Box. It reminded me of his father's earlier books and I thought it was pretty darn creepy.

Just received Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Creepy and fascinating read right out of the gate. How would you like to go to an e-bay type site and bid on owning your own ghost? That is what happens to this rock star who owns other ghoulish memorabilia. The outfit that comes with the ghost is ...

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King. I don't read Stephen King, but I adored Heart-Shaped Box. It was deliciously creepy and scary.

#10-Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill-A truly enjoyable read by a talented writer. I could hardly put it down, and it was a quick read but had an underlying message.

I just finished Heart-Shaped Box and it was one of the best ghost stories I've read in a while. Very much the kind of book that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and has you peeking over your shoulder at night to make sure nothing's sneaking up on you. ;) Next up - for a ...

I know, I know, I know I need to read Heart Shaped Box, but the whole 'rock n roll horror' angle is a turn off. Only because when I've seen it attempted before, it has always been bad. Ignorant of me, I admit. Carlos, glad you are liking The Ceremonies more. I was afraid I'd given you a bum ...

I recently read Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, and it started creeping me out right in the public library in broad daylight. When I got it home, I could barely put it down long enough to make supper.

For a complete change of pace I have next read Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. I was a little surprised to find that I liked this very scary ghost story. I think that if someone writes well, it doesn't matter what they write about and Hill writes well, not exceptionally so, but ...

I'm reading The Tattoo Murder Case by Akimitsu Takagi, a Japanese mystery novel written in the late 1940s, and Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill, which was so talked about here I had to read it too.

I hope you try 20th Century Ghosts. I enjoyed it as much if not more than Heart Shaped Box. The stories show such diversity.

... and I don't expect this to be the exception to that rule. Plus, I found it by accident on the bargain books table. 5. Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill - I don't know much about this author, but the storyline seems macabre enough for me. I also found this one by accident on the BBT. Just ...

I really enjoyed Locke & Key, although that may not be much use as Heart-Shaped Box wasn't my type of book at all!

Book 31 - Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill I finally got around to reading koolaidmom's suggestion and she was right, I did love this book. This book just hit all the right buttons. Good pace, excellent character development (I wonder who he got that from), and he didn't get too far 'out there' to ...

36. Heart-Shaped Box, Joe Hill (category 9) *** I love horror and ghost stories (no vampires though, plz,) but it's so difficult to put a fresh spin on traditionally terrifying things. Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill (This book is seriously creepy!)

More than the scariness, what I most remember about Heart-Shaped Box is the main character feeling very believable and interesting and real. I like Hill's writing style, too. It's not fancy, but it reads very smoothly.

I ended up buying a copy of Heart-Shaped Box last weekend after hearing a few people tell me how frightening it was. Now to bump it up a little in the reading queue.

Heart shaped Box

... do seem to have affected me rather more than I was expecting). But it's a solid collection, overall. I liked Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box, too. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more of his stuff in the future. I've already added his graphic novel Locke and Key to my ridiculously long ...

31. Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill (2.5 out of 5) A fast paced ghostly thriller. A ghost is for sale on the internet and Jude, an ageing rock star, collects the macabre. But when the ghost is delivered he soon realises it has it own agenda, one of revenge. Well this was ok, madly ...

I second Heart-Shaped Box. I just finished that one- it's really creepy and I love Joe Hill's writing. I'd recommend his short story collection 20th Century Ghosts even more. The Keeper and The Missing by Sarah Langan are also really good. I'd say they're more disturbing than ...

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill is a must! Books don't usually scare me, but this one had me looking in corners and around doors.

KIK. I have not read Heart-Shaped Box, but I have read A Mango-Shaped Space.

... haven't read The Wife of Bath, I haven't read Bath Tangle, I haven't read The Tangle Box, but I have read Heart-Shaped Box. phew.

Glad you agreed on Heart-Shaped Box. For me, the King feel had to do with how Hill used some of the same types of images.....off the top of my head, having the character chased on the highway, which is a popular King image. Looking forward to more from him.

... reread it a couple times already. It's a cute little children's story. Then... when I was grabbing an envelope to pack Heart-Shaped Box to mail out to a BookMooch member, I noticed one of the envelopes felt heavy. I opened it up and found a book in it :-D Politically Correct Bedtime Stori ...

Koontz has been criticized before about the hollywood endings. Loved Heart Shaped Box and have been looking for a good used copy of Twentieth Century Ghosts There is a definite King feel to his story but it's not as though he was aping his dad.....he's got his own unique voice also.

Koolaidmom, I hope you enjoy Heart-Shaped Box as much as I did. If you enjoy shorts, try his 20th Century Ghosts. It's very good. He did inherit his dad's talents and thank god, he has more than his mom. (Sorry, Tabitha)

I enjoyed Heartshaped Box very much. Have you tried his 20th Century Ghosts? It's a collection of shorts. Very good.

34. Heartshaped Box This was an impulse pick up at the library. There have been many reviews of this book so I will just say this is a great thriller/ghost story that was difficult to put down. It's the story of an aging rock star Jude and his girlfriend Georgia. Jude likes to collect eerie/d ...

Hmm... am I the only one who didn't think much of Heart-shaped box? I don't read many horror books but this one was highly recommended by a friend who found it so creepy she refused to read it in the evenings. I'm currently (still) reading Brighton Rock by Graham Greene, and The Eyre Affair ...

... after reading this book. I fourth or fifth The Shining and 'Salem's Lot(wow, that's the wrong touchstone) too. Heart-Shaped Box is also good. It's by Stephen King's son, so you know he learned from the best.

>26 I actually hadn't planned to read Heart Shaped Box for the challenge. It was languishing on my TBR shelf. But then I saw someone else reading it, and I had a spot open in a category that fit, so, why not? I'm glad I did. Behold, the power of LT!

It looks like a a few of us did Heart Shaped Box in the last week or so! Oooh - spooky! :) I did like it!

#22 - that is a great book #23 - I thought Heart Shaped Box was a real return to old fashioned horror. I really enjoyed it. And I am still reading A Fine Balance. If I can tear myself away from LT, I might even finish it :o)

I finished Heart Shaped Box today - I must give Joe Hill some credit for great descriptive writing. He really can paint a picture without having to take 4000 words to get through a scene. I ended up taking this one in to read at lunch because I kept wanting to find out what was going to happen. ...

@rxqueen82 Heart Shaped Box was EXCELLENT. The kid can write! Joe Hill also writes a graphic novel called Locke and Key that is really good and creepy.

Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill

... Home - I will be starting A Light in the Attic for Banned Book Week, which should be a quick read, and the I'm off to Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill. I haven't read a horror story in years - perhaps it will get me in the mood for Halloween. =)

I loved Heart Shaped Box and now I'm smack in the middle of 20th Century Ghosts and I like it even more. That may be because I'm a huge short story fan, but good stuff non the less. PS I wonder if he'll be as gracious if we all bombard him with messages now?

I've never picked up one of his books, but after reading all this praise I'm running out to get 20th Century Ghosts and Heart Shaped Box tonight.

The top of my list for horror has to be Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill followed very closely by one of his dad's books, It by Stephen King. I love King's books, but I don't find them particularly scary in the "stay up at night" sense. The two I've mentioned were in that category!

# 99 Saraslibrary - I'd definitely give Heart Shaped Box another go, although I have to say I got into it right from the start. I wouldn't say it was scary particularly, but I do think it's well written. I would read other books by him. # 100 D2vge - Thanks! I'm going to get it if I can... ...
