L’estiu del 1919 Franco Steffanoni aplica la tècnica de l’strappo per arrencar uns murals de més de mil anys d’antiguitat a Santa Maria de Mur. L’encàrrec li ha fet un antiquari, Ignacio Pollak, per ordre d’un industrial, amant de l’art, Lluís Plandiura. Així comença l’espoli de l’art romànic a mans de personatges sense escrúpols. Els tresors que contenen les esglésies del Pallars i la vall de Boí no estan emparades per cap legislació que els protegeixi, per això pateixen robatoris i espolis entre vendes clandestines, enganys i mitges veritats. Joaquim Folch i Torres, des de Barcelona, i en Ton de Cal Soldat, des del Pallars, lluitaran per evitar el que s’ha convertit en un dilema: arrencar per conservar o per negociar.

Strappo retrata la tenacitat d’uns i la cobdícia d’altres per aconseguir els tresors que guardaven les esglésies, que abans ningú no valorava i que ara són patrimoni de la Humanitat segons la UNESCO.
