Book description
<<>><<>>December 26, 1895, the art dealer Siegfried Bing (1838-1905) opens the doors of his store in Paris, Art nouveau. This opening, long-overdue marks the birth of a new artistic movement. Shopping enthusiast, Bing is also a sponsor and a precursor that aims at bringing the art of the West and the East, encouraging artists and designers - such as Eugène Carrière, Constantin Meunier, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Paul Signac and Edvard Munch - borrowing ways. Japanese art will play a key role in the emergence of this new trend. At the universal exhibition of 1900, Bing completes its international recognition by offering entire rooms furnished by Eugène Gaillard, Georges de Feure and Edvard Colonna. Its efforts to achieve an harmonious new Art style will thus reach their high point. The origins of the Art new is more than a monograph devoted to Siegfried Bing, its store and its national and international influence in the development of Art nouveau. This book considers the fusion of fine arts and the applied arts in a global stylistic form, in relying on many unpublished photos of works of art to this day.
