I received a copy of An American Song from LibraryThing for an honest review

The story revolves around Walter, an Irish American from childhood till hie final moments as an adult. The author takes us to a time when America was in shock and mourning over the assassination of JFK. Walter has a theory that his death was a conspiracy by the CIA, The Mafia, influential wealthy companies and perhaps even LBJ himself.
The book is written almost like a history book as Walter experiences the era of Haight-Ashbury, and the Vietnan War. He experiences different emotions and often times disgraced by the way the electives are running the USA. I love how the author eloquently places songs so expertly into each era Walter talks about.
When Walter votes for the first time he suddenly has doubts that he voted for the right person to become president . He takes pride in being an American and wants his vote to mean something.
There are many history making facts perfectly written that tells the life, and struggles of Walter. One of his biggest struggles he is faced with is when both his sons sign up to go into the military. Walter must now rely on his faith that has slipped away from him. He has become angry and unsure as he becomes older.
At what moment did he stop relying on God and become this depressed shell of a man?
As you read this book you will be engrossed in a story of an every man who doubts, stands strong, becomes angry , believes in family and tries to find himself again. I loved the authors style of writing and the songs that brought us back to the memory of history making moments. Well done for a first time author . ( )
