Great Main Character Development

I have to mention that I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep because I was thinking about finishing this book. If that's not a good sign, I don't know what is. Tara is an emotionally fully-developed heroine, which I appreciate in all fiction. She is both brave and selfish, loving and cranky, in other words...human. I also love that the relationship with Jax (which I assume will develop into something romantic later in the series) doesn't start off all sunshine-and-roses. Being a teenager is a terrifying and complicated time, and things rarely go smoothly.

Usually, I find futuristic dialect distracting, but Bryan weaves it into the story in such a way that it worked well. Can't wait to see Tara kick some more butt in book 2! ( )
