This book is more of a picture book as well as informational but does not contain real like photos. The illustrations are great and the book provides of larger print in more of a story form while providing information but also on the opposite page has smaller text with more information for older students. The book starts out talking about how dirty and bad rats are and then goes into more of the informational part explaining how rats are different depending on the type of rat, many ways on how rats are good and the things they do for us such as scientific testing, spreading seeds, being a source of food for predators and other information. There is a section at the end of the book describing the different types of species of rats. This is a good book to read when learning about animals and how most animals even if they are not animals people like to see they still have a bigger purpose.

A convincing argument to reconsider and even appreciate the much maligned rat. Great oil painting illustrations. ( )
