What's a man to do when his wife and baby daughter suddenly disappear without a trace? How can he move forward with his life when the endless search for his family leaves him emotionally devastated?

Taken Away is a heart wrenching story of love, loss, betrayal, recovery, second chances, and moving forward. This hauntingly poignant story is narrated in the first person perspective of Jessee Bradford, who takes the reader along on his heart wrenching journey of recovering from the devastating disappearance of his wife Serena and baby daughter Sophia. Jessee's emotional journey brings some very unexpected changes as he tries to move forward with his life. The story draws the reader into Jessee's life, you can't help but feel the full range of emotions as the story unfolds.

The author creates a cast of characters that are realistic people with issues that occur in their lives that the reader can easily relate to. You'll feel your heart strings being pulled as Jessee struggles to deal with the sudden disappearance and endless search for his wife and child, and his need to move forward with his life. I couldn't help but feel compassion for Jessee, he's a special kind of guy that any woman would love to have in their life. I can't tell you how much I disliked Jessee's wife Serena, as the story unfolded my contempt for this woman grew. I loved how Jessee's life came full circle with a second chance at love and having a family, I couldn't help but smile and cheer for him. The author transports the reader to two very different locales: Santa Barbara, California and Earlham, Iowa, with rich descriptions of each town.

The author weaves a story rich in detail and emotion, it deals with realistic situations and issues that occur in everyday life. This is a powerful and compelling story that masterfully intertwines issues that occur in real relationships: love, loss, betrayal, recovery, redemption, closure, second chances, and moving forward. While I enjoyed how the story unfolds throughout the book, the last quarter of the story is full of enough drama, suspense, surprising twists and turns, and romance that makes it so hard to put down until you reach the satisfying conclusion.

Taken Away is an emotional story that is so much more than the usual contemporary women's fiction novel. This is a story that will captivate you and pull at your heart strings, it will make you ponder about the complexity in relationships, and it will leave you emotionally spent but fulfilled with its wonderful ending.

What a great story. Jessee falls for Serena straight away and he knows that they can be happy together. Serena is a free spirit who loves to paint but is quite selfish. Her parents never wanted her to marry Jessee as she comes from money and he is considered beneath them. Serena falls pregnant Jessee is over the moon but Serena doesn't want the baby but she comes around.

Jessee comes home early as a surprise but he can't find Serena and their daughter Sofia he panics and calls the police. They just disappeared and Jessee just can't carry on so he leaves to go back to his grandparents. As time passes he knows that he needs to start living again. He meets Laura but she has her own ghosts. Can they be happy together and leave the past behind them. They are both in for some big surprises that can destroy their happiness.

Will Jessee family even be found or are they gone forever? Can Laura move on from her ghosts? A great story that is full of surprises and some tense moments. I have no problem recommending this book to anyone. I received a copy from the author through librarything. ( )

I received a copy of Taken Away by Ravenswood Publishung for an honest review

The story begins with a young couple who find themselves in love with each other. Serena has a promising career as an artist and Jesse has a thriving practice as a veterinarian. She comes from a very wealthy family and a father that will do anything for his daughter. When herb dad finds out she wants to marry Jesse, he is extremely upset. He demand that Jesse sign a prenup, which Serena says is not necessary .

After they are married, Jesse realizes that his wife has become distant. She is not quite herself and he asks her one day what is wrong. Serena tells him that she is pregnant . This news makes Jesse quite happy, but senses that Serena is not.
She is not ready to be tied down with a child and have her art be taken away from her. As their little girl, Sophia, starts to get bigger, Serena becomes more distant and unhappy. One day Jesses discoveres his wife and baby are gone. He calls the police fearing they may have been kidnapped from their home . After months of no word from his wife and no clues of what happened that day, he makes a hard decision to leave and move to Iowa to take over his grandfather's veterinary practice.

At this point in the story we see Jesse at his lowest point , finally begin to put his life back together. It's been months and still he thinks of his wife and daughter constantly . What happened the day they disappeared haunts him and is heartbroken by not knowing if they are alive somewhere or if something unthinkable happened to them.

This story is about a man who has lost his family and how he is determined to move on but never giving up hope that someday he will know the truth . Patricia, the author has written a book about a man who is loving but very vulnerable to being hurt by allowing himself to fall in love again. I love how she brings Jesse to a place where his heart begins to soften as a new woman named Laura enters his like. She is a strong woman who has suffered a tragedy and is guarded around men. Can these two people ever find happiness with each other? Will the disappearance of Serena and Sophia ever be solved?

I had a very hard time putting this book down. Patricia has written such diverse characters whose lives entertwine with each other in a complex but subtle way. Her attention to the characters struggles and emotions were so powerfully written, that it is not possible to forget them.

The ending is so powerful and rich with emotion, you find yourself taking a deep breath and wonder , if you had your family "Taken Away, could you go through the emotional roller coaster that Jesse endures? ( )
