Come aboard and join the pirates on the Jolly Bumperdink. They are all brave and fearsome, except Jim, who is different.
He is not proud of the other pirates, they are very loud, steal gold and silver, (and they don't wash themselves with soap either!) and his mother said, fighting isn't right. He is friendly and creative.
When all the other pirates sing and dance in the evening, Jim knits. He makes the most amazing bobble hats for the crew, but they look rather cute wearing them, and pirates don't look cute. ARRGH! The captain has to step in and in future, the pirates have to face fines, if they dare to wear silly hats or knit.
But Jim is smart and has a new idea. He knits himself a long beard. That will be the right thing to knit, as pirates wear beards, right? AYE! AYE!
Sadly, the beards interfere with their work, the pirates are tripping over them and the captain is a bit jealous, too and finally he throws Jim's wool and needles overboard.
The next day, after they try to capture a ship, a baby in a crib floats in the water and quickly they save it and now it's living with the pirates. But babies grow quickly and they need new clothes all the time. Now Jim is allowed to knit and when the pirates arrive the next time back home, Jim's mother is asked to come aboard, to teach the others how to knit.
The pirates decide, they will stop to fight and they will stop to capture boats in future. But what will they do instead?

Pirates Don't Knit! is another beautiful and funny rhyming book in the Top of the Wardrobe Gang Picture Book series. The Wardrobe Gang is a group of cute cuddly toys and they look over the author's shoulder, when she writes a new book and inspire Melinda Kinsman to come up with the most cheerful rhymes and vivid, colourful pictures, which children will love and enjoy.
There's always much more to her picture books. They also offer a lot of activity to engage the young reader. There's a wee rodent hidden on every page and there are puzzles to solve at the end of the book.

The thing, which always stuns me, is how the author cleverly integrates lessons in the story. (Healthy eating, fighting isn't the best option, don't be afraid to be different. respect others the way they are and it doesn't even hurt a pirate to wash regularly with soap.)
Five loud and clear AHOI from me. Highly recommended. ( )
