Amy stays up late and has a hard time getting up the next day. Her parents send her to school anyway sound asleep. She sleeps through her classes and the next day she is wide awake for school and her friends are sleeping. ( )

Amy won't wake up on the first day of school. Everyone in her family tries to shout and rustle her up, but it's just not working. How will they get her to school? Move her bed into the classroom, that's how! And so the events of the school day carry on around her, as she dozes through. What will happen on day 2? Her classmates have the last laugh - that's for sure! Cartoony watercolor illustrations and a repetitive story pattern make this fun for kindergarten through grade 2.

This book is a good example of realistic fiction because it is a situation that could easily happen in real life. However, the book is also a bad example of realistic fiction because it has the actions of people being opposite of what you would expect.
The plot of this book is very simple. This makes it a well-developed plot for early readers. They can follow it easily and learn from it.

Amy stayed up late watching TV. The next morning her mom, dad and brother try to get her out of bed. When they can’t they carry her bed to school. She sleeps through school all day and they take the bed back home. The next morning she wakes up and goes to school and all of her classmates are at school asleep. ( )

Robert Munsch does have a way in telling a humorous story; which this is. It isn't quite up to his standards, but it is still entertaining. I'm not sure if the children pick this one because of the familiarity of Robert Munsch or if they really like it. It is one of his weaker books, but still more enjoyable that many books out there! Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0439388511, Paperback)

Best-selling author Robert Munsch has created this humorous story about Amy, a little girl reluctant to get out of bed, even when her mother stands her on her feet!

What will get sleepy Amy out of bed? Not her brother's yell. Not her father's stern command. Not even her mother's trick of standing Amy up on her feet! So they do the only thing they can--they tuck her back into bed! Amy's father picks up one end of the bed and Amy's mother and brother pick up the other. They lug it out the door, down the street, around the corner, through the school yard, and into the school. Amy's classmates spend the entire day trying to get sleeping Amy through her school activities.
