Jeffrey Archer really has a knack of keeping the readers glued and make them nervous and make them wait for the next novel to get released. I'm waiting for THIS WAS A MAN for a long time and November 3rd is the date. The new characters and the old characters are simply awesome! Portraying Jessica on the lines of her aunt/Granny is simply awesome. Glad that i was able to finish three novels in one week. The final (7th) book in The Clifton Chronicles! If you like multigenerational, long-running English family sagas with lots happening, The Clifton Chronicles are for you. Events can verge almost into melodrama at times, but the story lines hook you and never let go, and the characters in the book grow and change with the times. Those on the side of good sometimes lose the battle, but mostly (!) win the war. I'm sad to rate this book one star less than the previous five, but the story meanders in many directions without much coherence in this sixth volume of the Clifton Chronicles. The story in general is the same with the villains, old ones and new, indulging in various forms of villainy while the good ones get ahead for most part. In spite of Archer's engaging narrative, many parts of this book seem pointless and lacking in substance, like the tragic romance sequence set in Bombay. I sincerely hope the final installment is far better than this one... Cometh the Hour is the 6th book in the Clifton Chronicles series by Jeffrey Archer. I won a copy of the audiobook version from a Goodreads giveaway. Having never read any of the series, at first I felt a bit lost as I didn't know the characters or anything about the plots of prior books. As the story continued, I got past that awkward confusion and just enjoyed the story. The audiobook, narrated by Alex Jennings, has great production value. I suffer from hearing loss, but was able to understand and enjoy this audiobook with no problems. Jennings reads at a perfect pace and is easily understandable. The tense moments in the story are not over-done.....no cheesy melodrama here....just an enjoyable narration. For me popping in at book 6, this series seems to be an upperclass British soap opera. A suicide note leaked to the press ruins a political career. A man wondering if his foreign lover truly cares for him or is she a spy? Wealthy upperclass woman facing bankruptcy meets a man who might be able to solve her financial woes....if she can trick him. It's like As the World Turns or Falcon Crest with Uppercrust Brits. But...the one difference is that story is very well-written. I guess it's cheesy melodrama done with superb style. Definitely recommended for readers who enjoy political intrigue, nefarious plots, and spy mystique. Very well done! no reviews | add a review
