This is an interesting book, and at over 700 pages contains a lot of information about basic and intermediate running. Its index is good, and the organisation of chapters is logical, making it a useful reference resource.

While it does provide a great deal of interesting material, the same amount of information could have been included in much fewer pages. The long-windedness of the text means that skimming ahead is constantly necessary, which limits its value as a 'handbook'. Despite all the words there are no diagrams or pictures, which is a shame because some of the descriptions of correct posture, stretches and strengthening exercises can be quite hard to follow.

In conclusion, the enthusiastic style, logical arrangement and large amount of information make this a worthwhile book. However, its value as a handbook or reference work is marred by the inconcise writing and absence of images. ( )

In the 70s, jogging and running became a minor craze. Happily, I was spared this addiction. The book however, seems like a good guide full of handy tips and suggestions of ways to avoid injury and maximize the benefits. ( )
