Forensic professor Scarlett Reese has the unique ability to hear not only the minds of others, but the last thoughts from dead bodies. She’s also fairly young and often mistaken as a student. To keep from being overwhelmed she’s done her best to keep herself apart from others. So she’s surprised when approached by transfer student Jack Hollister who wants to take her on a date, and she can’t hear the chatter from his mind.

Interesting premise but the lack of content on both the story and the characters makes this story feel choppy and unbelievable. More internal and external dialogue is needed to accept the kissing or making out without it coming out of left field. The only times you know what a character is feeling is when making out or in the couple of more dramatic scenes. And the sudden thoughts of love? They barely know each other and haven’t spent much time together.

The what of the situation happens pretty far into the book and while I can understand the need for surprising reveals, the reader is just bounced around until reaching that point.

More needs to be added for the story to flow smoothly and for the reader to care about the characters.

I did pick this up when it was offered for free. ( )
