This is an easy to read informational text with short sentences, large font, and colorful photographs that are interesting. I would use comparing reading strategy to connect what my students may already know about dogs to see how that relates with what they learn from the book or what they see in the pictures. I will also encourage them to find differences between what they know, between different breeds of dogs, different jobs that dogs have, etc. This would be a good book to take words from to make a graphic organizer such as a cluster or word web.
