I connected with Lynn Gerrard on Twitter some time ago. She shares short poems on her feed, and I became an instant fan. This led me to her blog, where she posts her poetry, and where I linger now and then when I have a few moments. The natural progression of my interest led me to this, her first book, where I could dwell at my convenience, and soak up her madness.

Lynn has a gift for wordplay. Her poems have a playful rhythm that beckons us into her pretty web. Yes, the overall tone is dark, but the dance feels good despite the spikes we're standing on. Occasionally she catches us off guard with a splash of humor, teasing us. Other times her insight is startling, provocative; a spotlight on those things we try hard not to see.

I borrowed the Kindle book as my monthly freebie with my Amazon Prime membership. But now I'll have to buy it, because I know I'll want to read these poems again. ( )
