Received from NetGalley for free in exchange for an honest review.

The biggest difficulty for me was the writing. It was, ultimately, impossible for me to move past. The fact that the author ended (on average) every 3rd sentence in an exclamation point was unforgivable. The occasional exclamation point can be, of course, helpful to a reader; but, the incessant use was distracting and made it impossible to take seriously.

Also, although the story idea actually seemed quite interesting, I felt that it failed to really follow through on what it promised. It purported to be original, but I felt that it pulled (way) too much from other classics and stories without actually creating something *new.* Additionally, although the events in the *story* changed, the tone or writing remained the same, leaving me with a heightened sense of urgency (all the exclamation points) without any urgency in the action, and no increased urgency when it would have been called for.

Overall, a great disappointment for me. ( )
