Review: "The Perfect Thanksgiving" is a depiction of Thanksgiving through the eyes of one child who looks at how their own family does Thanksgiving and also how the "perfect family" does Thanksgiving. In the end, the child realizes that while their lives may be drastically different, they both share the common theme of love for each other.

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Genre Critique: This book is a good example of realistic fiction because it represents the feelings of many kids growing up in mainstream American culture and their feelings towards different styles of families. ( )

This book is about a girl named Abigail Archer and her perfect family on Thanksgiving. The point of view that this story is from is a child who is comparing their family as the exact opposite to the Archer's. The moral of the story is that this little girl who is comparing her not-so-perfect family to the Archer's seemingly perfect family, is that she understands the different families have the same about of love for every member.
Critique (Genre): This is a great example of realistic fiction because children love to compare their family with another classmates families. Thanksgiving is a time when relatives get together and the author portrays the narrators family in a very realistic manner where children could most likely find something in her family that their own family does as well.
Media: Gouache, colored pencil, and collage on craft paper ( )

"The Perfect Thanksgiving" is an interesting book as it compares two families that are vastly different. One family seems to have it all together; perfect turkey, perfect manners, etc. The other family on the other hand seems a little disfunctional, yet at the end both families realize that Thanksgiving is a time for everybody to come together and share their love. The illustrations are hilarious as it does a great job of supporting the funny comments within the text itself.

Great book for the Thanksgiving season. About two families celebrating Thanksgiving who are very different. One family seems picture perfect with a plump turkey and all the sides. While the second family's turkey burns and the jello wiggles right on to the floor. While both of these families seem very different they all share something in common, they are together on Thanksgiving and love one another. Great for students to see how families can be very different but also the same. k-2 ( )

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Review: This is a good example of realistic fiction because it realistically describes two families' Thanksgiving celebrations. These two families are very different, but they all love each other the same.

Setting: This setting is a specific setting. It needs to be set in these specific houses to illustrate the differences between the families, but also to illustrate their most important thing in common.

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0312375050, Paperback)

Enter two families who couldn’t be more opposite. Family one seems just perfect—with a plump golden turkey, gorgeous whipped cream swirls atop their pie, and lace napkins on the table. Family two, on the other hand, seems far from it! The turkey burns, the Jell-O wiggles and jiggles right to the floor, and Dad’s shirt serves as napkin. What could these two very different families possibly have in common? Full of whimsy, good spirit, and certainly familial love, this laugh-aloud picture book is sure to add spice to any Thanksgiving feast.
