At first I thought this was going to be another story like that of Disney’s Mulan. Was I ever wrong? This is a great story and a standalone at that. Olivia is a normal girl, well as normal as can be in her time, but she has a notion that she wants to be a knight which is not allowed to any female. Olivia trains with her father’s underlings as a squire but the deal is she has to stop training at seventeen and become a lady so she can marry and have a family. All of Olivia’s sisters have abided by the gender roles in their lives but Olivia just cannot do it. Just before she turns 17. Olivia’s father must go on a mission and he is taking the older squires the ones Olivia has spent the last 4 years training with but is adamant about leaving her behind. Olivia has plans of her own. As the story generally goes the girl is confident, strong and highly skilled. Well the latter 2 are ok but confidence is not one of Olivia’s strong points she is a mere teenage girl and it shows a lot. Very good read for any age. ( )
