Slug Needs a Hug is a cute tale about a slug that loves hugs. When his mommy doesn’t hug him, he feels ugly. Each of his animal friends gives him advice on how to look if he wants to get a hug. He adds more and more accessories to himself. But, when he sees his mommy, will he finally get that hug he wants?
Willis focuses on acceptance in this humorous picture book. At one point, baby slug wears two noses in hopes of looking attractive. The illustrations by Tony Ross are cartoon-like and add more humor to the story. This is a great selection for teaching rhyme and acceptance. ( )
