The characters were uninteresting, the plot line was dull. It was also a bit dated. From the cover it looked like a fairly new release but had originally came out in 91. The synopsis on the back cover made it sound like a really good read, but unfortunately didn't live up to my expectations. ( )The most "real" romance I have read in such a long time. Interesting (to me) things about this story. The narrating has a sort of detached feel to it. There are snippets of peoples' lives - sometimes leaving them at what feels like a crisis, only to come back later and find they have carried on. There are major plot happenings that are only told after the fact. And yet, Ms. Gutcheon somehow makes these characters seem real - that they are having feelings and experiences and lives outside the confines of the story line. Apart from that, I enjoyed the story itself. Very satisfying (if not a very frequent experience in real life) to have two characters genuinely fall in love with each other and be made for each other and in the end find themselves together. Another wonderful book by Beth Gutcheon. You really get to know the people, from the divorced mother of two to the divorced father of an unruly teenager and how their lives intertwine. Martha, after a nasty divorce, has made a new life for herself and her two boys, teenage Jack and 2 year old Fred. When she is informed that her former husband Raymond died in an airplane accident and that his divorce lawyerCharlie is now the executor of his estate, she is quite bitter. Because of Jack being the heir, Charlie and Martha are increasingly thrown together and eventually fall in love. no reviews | add a review

|
After her ex-husband dies in a plane crash, Martha Gaver is horrified to learn that the executor of Raymond's estate is Charlie, the conservative, insufferable lawyer who represented Raymond in their bitter divorce. Yet soon after they reenter each other's lives, Martha, Charlie, and their teenage children find they have more in common than they imagined as they struggle to rebuild their lives...and that opposites really do attract.
Engaging,, witty, and entertaining, Domestic Pleasures is a touching, piercing tale of love lost, found, and embraced once again.
