**I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.**

Eric Mayo, author of Through the Force of the Spirit: Understanding the Spiritual Cosmos has managed to write a piece of work that has been sorely missing in the literature related to spirituality.

With research-based and scientifically backed information, he successfully manages to combine the spiritual and empirical. His writing style reads like a textbook; I found it very easy to follow along. Each chapter also had suggestions for further reading, which I found to be very useful and something I will keep around for if/when I choose to further explore these topics.

Mayo fairly addressed beliefs and traditions of many different religions while refraining from his personal biases and beliefs. He displayed an inclusive portrayal across religions.

My personal favorite part was the chapter on empathy. Several days after finishing this book, I am still finding myself trying to grasp at Mayo's concepts and find myself referring back to specific paragraphs.

Overall, this book was able to both provide information and provoke thought and is a solid piece of literature.
