This is book is a collection of photographs that inspires children to find their ABC's in common places. A is made by a ladder, I, a few white bricks in a brick wall, O is a tire swing. This book would pair well with a walk about lesson, where children could try to find their own ABC's around their school. ( )

This is a beautifully done wordless picture book of the alphabet as found in common objects in a school. A letter may be found in a shadow cast, a common object, or architectural element. The colors used are bright and engaging and have been digitally altered to appear grainy.

Curricular connections: This would be a great book to be used as an art study- looking for lines, shadow, texture, etc. The photos could also be used as writing prompts for a language arts lesson. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 141692521X, Hardcover)

Explore the ins and outs of A to Z in an educational setting in this innovative picture book from the Caldecott Honor–winning creator of Alphabet City and A Is for Art.

Imagine a school. Any school. Be it your school, one from memory, or even a dream school. Then enter and embark on a journey of wonder and delight. Look closely. There’s a letter C in the curve of a globe, a little L in the handle of a pencil sharpener, or at recess, a vibrant yellow V in a geodesic climbing dome.

Can you find the letters on every page?

From inside the classroom to outside on the playground, Caldecott Honor artist and author Stephen T. Johnson renders the ordinary extraordinary with timeless imagery, inviting us to reexamine and rediscover our schools anew, and to find beauty and joy in the most unexpected places.
