Another Children's Book Day title that I would never have chosen to read if it hadn't been prescribed by work.
I can see the appeal for children, but mostly I was irritated.
I have a high capacity for suspension of disbelief, but I find it hard to accept a diary written in 'pig' that I can understand, when Pig says he doesn't speak the Farmer's language, yet he understands being called 'Roast Pig' and 'Sausage' [even though he doesn't understand the implications of the words] It doesn't gel for me. I can accept imaginary worlds, if they follow their own rules, but too much didn't feel right for me.
I also worry that children at an impressionable age will think that Pig's style of writing is acceptable - even correct - English, which it most certainly is not for human writers.
Sorry, it just didn't do it for me. I don't think I'll bother with the sequel. ( )
