Another great book in the Elite Force Series

Major Liam McCabe – After losing his mom to cancer he joined the army at 18, then became a Ranger and worked his way up to officer and then switched to the air force in the Pararescue division. He has been married three times with three divorces. He knew from the moment he met Rachel that he could love her but is also scared of love due to losing his mother and his three divorces.

Rachel Flores has loved animals from the time she was little and would go with her mother to help her rescue animals from many situations. Her mother worked for an animal shelter and it was through this that she met her husband. After being in the service for a year he was sent overseas where he was captured and beheaded. Her mother was also killed on the job by a man that was angry she had taken away his dogs that he had for dog fighting. Since then she worked round the clock on SAR missions (Search and Rescue) but after the 3 weeks spent in the Bahamas trying to find survivors (where Liam and Rachel met in Hot Zone) she got burnt out and found a new job working to train therapy dogs for PTSD patients. Which is what leads her to Florida and into the mess she is in.

One of her veterans she had been working with had a breakdown/flashback that was even upsetting the dog she had trained. She went to go try and help calm the dog down and ended up having Brandon Harris tell her he knew someone high up in the chain of command was planning on selling US secrets but that no one believed him due to his extreme PTSD. After being threatened and her dog poisoned Rachel realized she needed help and the only person she could trust was Liam even though she had been avoiding his phone calls since they left the Bahamas. After breaking into Liam’s car to wait for him to get back from training and he takes her to his house they find out that someone blew up her townhouse along with most of the block.
From here things take off.. They are run off the road after a high speed chase, shot at, and hide out in the Florida swamp where Liam has to wrestle with an alligator.

As with the other books there is a secondary romance. That is between Brandon and Catriona Whittier who runs the doggie day care where both Rachel and Brandon leave there dogs when they have appts .

There were touching moments in each couple’s romance.. My favorite for Liam and Rachel was in the hotel bathtub.. For Brandon and Catriona on the floor of the cabin in the swamp.

This series is so intense with both the action scenes and the characters. I can’t wait to see who’s book is next.

Rachel and Liam's relationship was a bit annoying with both of them stuck in old patterns and preconceived ideas. Neither was open to a new relationship which went on for more than half the book and even when they finally admitted they liked each other their old mind sets had them reverting to standoffish once again. Tiring!

I am now officially addicted to Mann's books. This is now the third book I've read of hers and I keep coming back for more. This book has absolutely everything I want in a romantic suspense. Liam is the "old guy" on the PJs team, all of 38 years old. He hasn't had luck with his three marriages, but he still is a romantic at heart. And he's hot:) And Rachel, is a wonderful heroine. She's dealing with her own past and the pain of losing her first love. And she's a dog trainer! There are so many dogs in this story, and for me that was a big bonus. I absolutely adored the Brandon/Cat subplot. It was so special and really added to the book. Yeah, the ending scenes were a little over the top, but isn't that what you want in a book like this? I know I do. I will keep reading everything Mann writes. ( )

Another brilliant, action-packed story in the Elite Force series. We met Liam and Rachel in book #2 [b:Hot Zone|10841289|Hot Zone (Elite Force #2)|Catherine Mann|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1314641050s/10841289.jpg|15755601] during their relief mission in the Bahamas. I've been wondering how could the stoic leader of this elite team have had such bad luck with his personal life? And why was Rachel blowing hot and cold? Roughly six months have passed since they met in Hot Zone and now we finally get their story.

I wasn't disappointed. Once again, Catherine Mann delivers disillusioned, narcissistic villains, strong, honorable warriors and the equally tough women who can hold their own both professionally and romantically.

I hope there will be more books in this series because I'd really like to read "Cuervo's" story. ( )
