Terrific on London and Londoners, immediately recognisable, and a wonderful and touching account of the beginning and end of first love. The aftermath of an air-raid (with piano) misses absolutely nothing. The lack of rancour for the dire predicament he was put in by his parents, commented on elsewhere, is truly amazing. And there's a sequel. ( ) no reviews | add a review

What's it like to be the man of the house when you're still only a boy? In 'Keeping Mum', Brian Thompson describes such a story. Whilst other children were evacuated out of the big cities, Brian found himself travelling into London, and spent much of the war with an eccentric crowd of ribald relations.
