Book 75: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke (***). Contrasted with the 550-page American Wife, this 530-page children's book was the slowest trudging ever! I simply couldn't get into the story. Ha! "get into" -- is ironic because this is a story about a man who can read characters out of a story ...

I trudged through Inkheart last week. I had to keep reminding myself this was a children's book, but Funke's resolutions for all the major crises points were so silly and disappointing that it was hard to keep reading. I did like it better towards the end, but the best part of this book was the ...

I actually liked Inkheart and while not exciting, I really liked the characters. But I found Inkspell weak and it put me off wanting to read the 3rd in the series.
Hi ya stranger! Yes, Inkheart is too long for the story and by book three I just wanted to know how it would all end! The characters irritated me and the cool idea of traveling into a book was passé. Ah well. Congrats on 100 REVIEWS! Your snarky ones are usually your best.

Thankfully the story is different and the feel of the book also. The trolls reminded me of some characters from Abarat or Inkheart . And the idea of a "human" plant is really fascinating.

I think the Inkheart trilogy is great. It's kind of an alternate world series. It's rather complex and the plot is entirely driven by the characters, who make decisions good and bad throughout. For me, it was rather unpredictable.
In re. to the swearing in Inkheart , I haven't read it yet (been meaning to, like half of the rest of the books on the planet!), but I understand it was originally written in German. It would be interesting to see if the language was there in the original, or if it's part of the translation.

I've also abandoned Inkheart , at least for now. I couldn't stand the fact that it started out trying to slowly (~100 pages?) build suspense about something we know about from the back cover. By the time it actually started getting somewhere, I was ready to move on.
Inkheart is lovely for readers and book lovers. ^-^ Though if you're very sensitive to the sound of prose, you might find it a little wooden and stiff in comparison to non-translated kids' books, I do warn you there. But it's a lot of fun despite that. ^-^ I hope you'll enjoy it, Dreamlikecheese!
I'm on a bit of a kiddy lit kick at the moment. Yesterday I bought Inkheart bacause all the kids in the shop rave about it and it was cheap. I also bought The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman because who can resist a new Neil Gaiman? Especially one with cool illustrations!

#41: Still avoiding the question of economic freedom, I see. At some point a reader has to come to terms with the fact that Inkheart is just a story and villains don't actually jump out of pages. How do you intend to fight an enemy whose neighbor is a paperback? Crack down on free speech?

I was gonna guess "Capricorn" (cause the pictures looked like Copper-Corn) from the Inkheart books by Cornelia Funke but he's a dude and doesn't have a last name so that doesn't quite work.
But maybe I'll get partial dings for an alternate solution?
Inkspell and Inkheart are fantastic. The third installment Inkdeath will be available in English next year.
#71 G, I really liked Inkheart and Inkspell, too. Especially the first one. It also reminded me of Harry Potter because it takes place in the here and now, not some distant time or unknown world. It was so good I was really scared at parts (in a good book way).

It's currently a tie between the three I voted for! So if it comes down to it, I'll remove my votes for Inkheart and The Goose Girl and leave just The Hollow Kingdom.... except that I don't have the option of changing my vote anymore, so the votes would have to be deducted manually.

... between books and reality" and is so far only used on Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books and Cornelia Funke's Inkheart books.
I totally forgot about Inkheart being made into a movie until fyrefly mentioned it. I looked at the site and there were many, MANY sound effects. Paul Bettany will be perfect for Dustfinger! And Andy Serkis...who would have thought? I still picture him as a little mutant hobbit running around ...
Inkheart is being made (has been made; it's in post-production) into a movie: http://imdb.com/title/tt0494238
Depending on how it's done, of course, I think this could make a fantastic movie. And with the slight exception of Brendan Fraser playing Mortimer Silvertongue (not that I have ...
I have only read Inkheart so far, upon my thirteen year old son's insistence, and I really like it. Now he is waiting for me to read Inkspell, which I will as soon as I am done with two or three other books I am presently reading. Oh! SOOOO many books to read....isn't that wonderful?

I am in Italy with Inkheart by Cornelia Funke.
I finally gave in to my youngest son's insistence and started it.....I admit I got hooked. It feel a bit foolish to mention it here, among books such as the ones you guys are talking about, but it is really good.
#64 and 66> I am lucky because my son also has Inkspell, and so I will not have to go 'hunting' for it!
Inkheart has definitely hooked me!

And, to top it all off, I'm in the middle of reading A Drowned Maiden's Hair, and so far, I really love it.
Currently I have Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. I should never get more than one book at a time from the library - I am awful about returning them on time and always get late fees. With multiple books, they sure do add up quickly.
I went to the bookstore the other day and picked up my copy in Inkspell. My friend loaned me Inkheart and I fell inlove with it.
... I have, I love.

Some books I almost didn't get because of the title include The Heavenly Horse from the Outermost West and The Devil Vicar.
I really like the title Inkheart . It's a fitting title for the book and it's interesting just as a title.
Count me in for American Born Chinese!
Elsewhere or InkHeart are other ones I'm dying to read, but I'm sure I'm way behind on this and you guys have already read them. :P

I agree with lefty33, the cover of Inkheart and Inkspell as well are just beautiful. Sometimes it's hard not to pick up a book just because of the cover, but I have been known to do it from time to time. The Faerie Wars trilogy by Herbie Brennan have pretty covers as well. But my favorite ...
