With this book Descartes meditates on a question that has yet to be satisfactorally answered; how do the mind and body interact?

The six Meditations he goes through are well structured in terms of the argument they put forward, and are easily understood, partly due to Descartes' skillful use of examples that everyone can relate to. While not being a truly great philosopher, Descartes' work has unquestionably had an impact on all philosophy since.

This edition (ISBN 0521558182) contains a number of objections from contemporary philosophers and theologians, and Descartes' replies to them. ( )

What can I say? It's the work that spawned modern philosophy--reason without root, without the proper first principles. ( )

It's a classic but... a tiresome and rather flawed attempt to prove the existence of god and everything else. If nothing else, it seems to show the powerful influence of the church's recent treatment of Descarte's contemporaries. ( )
