It's a classic but... a tiresome and rather flawed attempt to prove the existence of god and everything else. The six Meditations he goes through are well structured in terms of the argument they put forward, and are easily understood, partly due to Descartes' skillful use of examples that everyone can relate to. This edition (ISBN 0521558182) contains a number of objections from contemporary philosophers and theologians, and Descartes' replies to them. (
