It was particularly eerie and exciting for me because I completely identified with the main character (minus the suicidal tendencies) all her observations ... I just finished The Awakening and I think I have time for one more off the Banned Book List so I grabbed The Catcher in the Rye. I can't believe that I have still not read this one. Oh well, by tomorrow night I won't be able to say that.

I read this for Banned Books Week and I think that I enjoyed reading about Kate Chopin and her life far more than I enjoyed reading what she wrote.

Just finishing The Awakening. ... have read: Their Eyes Were Watching God, one of my better reads this year (thank you laytonwoman3rd), and am working on The Awakening. If I have time I will move on to To Kill a Mockingbird and then The Catcher in the Rye.

This excessiveness was worthwhile when my stepson was assigned a summer reading The Awakening by Kate Chopin, which he had to read in the thin onion skin pages of heavy The Norton Anthology instead of a light personal paperback.
Finished The Awakening on dailylit.com. I'm a bit luke warm about it, didnt much like the main character, just seemed a bit shallow to me. Could have had something to do with the format and maybe the novels style is a bit too dated for me.

I have also read Jazz and The Awakening recently. Did you enjoy them? 20. The Awakening- Kate Chopin. I'd call this a novella and not a novel. This was pretty good, but not great. Progressive for its time, it loses a little bit of its edge in our time. I was still able to appreciate it however, and it did have pretty good writing.
